Buccino to accept journalism award Sunday in Princeton at Dow Jones

New Jersey author Anthony Buccino of Nutley, will collect his second consecutive blogging award from the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists. The awards ceremony is Sunday afternoon at Dow Jones and Co. campus, Princeton, N.J.

Buccino's entry consisted of “Don the TV Man,” “Penny Candy from the Corner Store,” and “Gary’s English Racer vs. My Schwinn.” Each piece, and others in the series on Belleville Patch, depict life growing up in the 1960s on a dead-end street in that town.

Greetings From Belleville, New Jersey, Collected Writings by Anthony Buccino was published earlier this year. Buccino's newest collection includes more than forty essays and reflections on everything from junior high school bullies to selling pretzels for Ed Strat at Belleville High School football games at Municipal Stadium.

Buccino writes about those duck-and-cover drills in elementary school, junior high school bullies, and high school joy riding to Monk's Castle and Albino Village. Spanning six decades, this collection shares the bitter and the sweet, all in an ultimate tribute to growing up in this middle class township in northern New Jersey.

Buccino last earned the NJ Society of Professional Journalists: SPJ-NJ 2010 EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM. Media Affiliated Blog  award for his posts on the NJ.com Transit Blog. He also won an NJ SPJ Excellence in Journalism award in 1996.
