When it comes to documenting the history and culture of the Belleville-Nutley area, locals are lucky that they have Anthony Buccino.

NUTLEY, NJ — When it comes to documenting the history and culture of the Belleville-Nutley area, locals are lucky that they have Anthony Buccino.

When Patch recently asked our readers for stories about hometown heroes, Pennie Landry, co-founder of the Nutley Homeowners Community Facebook page, was quick to name Buccino.

The Nutley resident and Belleville native keeps the history of both communities alive on social media and in books he authors, Landry wrote.

Notes:
Paul Calabrese was killed in an auto accident at 18. I was the only one from the School 10 class to visit the wake. Paul is the basis for BUDDIES, (based on actual events, as they say,) which appears in A Father's Place - An Eclectic Collection.

...The last time I saw Paul was the last time anyone saw him. His old man told me how Paul took a curve too fast because he didn’t want to be called “a goddamned chicken by his goddamned buddies.” Paul lost control of the car and went through the windshield. I remember thinking how long his hair had gotten since the mornings I watched him put on his old man’s butcher’s wax before we left for school....

Buccino's Facebook groups go viral

In 2008, Anthony Buccino created two Facebook groups, one for Belleville, N.J., and one for Nutley, N.J. and they both asked members to fill in the blank You know you're from (that town) when you ....

They were pretty quiet groups until last Monday when each group caught fire and went from 600 members each to around 3,000 members each a week later.

You know you’re from Belleville if.....Belleville's social media group is going viral, as Bellevillites remember their shared past as well as favorite haunts including long gone Belle Maid bakery, the bog, Grant's and more.

Gary's English Racer vs. My Schwinn

It was the ultimate showdown, my good-old American Schwinn bike against Gary's fancy-schmancy English racer.

You wouldn't think that a kid could get into too much trouble riding his bike up and down a dead end street.

 On both sides of that Gless Avenue there were about a dozen two-family houses and not all of them had kids who rode their bikes in the street, on sidewalks that lifted near big trees, or up and down smooth and bumpy driveways.

 In baseball season, we took the cards of players we didn’t know and used a few of mom’s clothespins to make our bikes sound like motorcycles.
