Buccino to accept journalism award Sunday in Princeton at Dow Jones

New Jersey author Anthony Buccino of Nutley, will collect his second consecutive blogging award from the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists. The awards ceremony is Sunday afternoon at Dow Jones and Co. campus, Princeton, N.J.

Buccino's entry consisted of “Don the TV Man,” “Penny Candy from the Corner Store,” and “Gary’s English Racer vs. My Schwinn.” Each piece, and others in the series on Belleville Patch, depict life growing up in the 1960s on a dead-end street in that town.

Greetings From Belleville, New Jersey, Collected Writings by Anthony Buccino was published earlier this year. Buccino's newest collection includes more than forty essays and reflections on everything from junior high school bullies to selling pretzels for Ed Strat at Belleville High School football games at Municipal Stadium.

Buccino writes about those duck-and-cover drills in elementary school, junior high school bullies, and high school joy riding to Monk's Castle and Albino Village. Spanning six decades, this collection shares the bitter and the sweet, all in an ultimate tribute to growing up in this middle class township in northern New Jersey.

Buccino last earned the NJ Society of Professional Journalists: SPJ-NJ 2010 EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM. Media Affiliated Blog  award for his posts on the NJ.com Transit Blog. He also won an NJ SPJ Excellence in Journalism award in 1996.

Water-repellent coatings hold promise in planes, cars and toilets

By BOB SECHLER=

AUSTIN, Texas (Dow Jones/AP) _ Aircraft that won't accumulate ice while awaiting winter takeoff. Engine parts with self-cleaning capabilities to boost efficiency. Even automobiles or toilet bowls that require little to no washing.

All could be commonplace someday if ongoing research proves successful into ``superhydrophobic'' _ or extremely water-repellent _ coatings that are durable enough for metal and ceramics. The idea is that moisture will simply bead up and roll off, picking up dirt particles along the way.

Any time you can work toilets into the headline of a business news story ... that's why Anthony is quite proud of this recast which cleared the news wire.

US Commodities: Corn, Soybeans Wheat Down On Weather Forecast

Tuesday June 19th, 2007 / 22h08

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- The rain on the plains plays havoc with the grains, prices that is. On the Chicago Board of Trade, corn, soybeans and wheat futures settled down Tuesday as midday forecasts predicting rain for the eastern U.S. Midwest this weekend pushed prices sharply lower.

July corn settled 20 cents lower at $3.96 per bushel, September fell 20 cents to $4.04, and December declined 20 cents to $4.03 1/2.

Soybean futures ended sharply lower, backpedaling on speculative selling amid the extraction of risk premium following improved moisture chances for the eastern Midwest.

July soybeans settled 26 1/4 cents lower at $8.29, and November soybeans finished 25 cents lower at $8.64 a bushel.

July wheat tumbled 20 cents to $5.81 per bushel, Kansas City Board of Trade July wheat settled 22 1/2 cents lower at $5.69 1/4, and Minneapolis Grain Exchange July wheat ended down 13 3/4 cents at $5.70 1/4.

Wheat futures also continued to consolidate after breaking 11-year highs for front-month contracts last week, traders said. The market was in an overbought condition and due for some profit-taking, they said. ...

Wow, get a load of these prices from last June! Anthony is most proud of his first line of this otherwise downcast businsess news story.
