Anthony's World - Summer 2017

Summer 2017

1.    Belleville Sons Honor Roll
July wraps up our individual sign dedications to the Belleville servicemen who died while in service. Please join us at one or both of these scheduled events in Belleville, N.J:

JULY 8, 2017;
Edward J. Zuczek, 11 a.m., Gless Ave. at Meacham St., Killed in Peacetime;
Raymond DeLuca, 11:30 a.m., Meacham St. at Memphis Ave., KIA Vietnam.

JULY 15, 2017;
Giavanni Bocchino, 10 a.m., Lake St., KIA WWII;
Nicholas Del Grosso, 10:30 a.m., Mt. Prospect Ave. at Belleville Ave., KIA WWII;
Frank H. Metzler, 11 a.m., Joralemon St. at Reservoir Place, KIA WWII

The project that began more than 15 years ago, to identify and remember the fallen soldiers from Belleville, N.J., is having long-term effects. In nearly two years, Belleville has dedicated more than two dozen street signs to fallen soldiers from the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Vietnam War and the Cold War.

Our research continues as we learn more about these Belleville Sons from their families at street sign dedications. Order your updated Belleville Sons Honor Roll.

2.   Walk and Talk with the Author
Sunday, 8:30 a.m., Aug. 20, 2017 – Anthony will lead the Walk & Talk through Nutley parks.

Enjoy a refreshing walk from the pre-opening Nutley Farmers Market through Nutley parks along the Third River to Kingsland Park and back while Anthony discusses Nutley history, the Nutley Sons Honor Roll, and growing up near these parks in the 1960s and the good old days he’s written about in Greetings From Belleville, and his other books. Bring along your copies for him to sign. Some books will be available for purchase on site.

3.    Nutley Sons Honor Roll
Our research continues on 140 fallen Nutley Sons. Check out the latest in edition of Nutley Sons Honor Roll.

4.    Book Projects
Anthony is juggling book projects. One project is Nutley Notables Volume 2, the follow up to Nutley Notables. Another project involves research into murder, mayhem and major crime in a safe Jersey town.

5.    Other Stuff
Anthony continues to shoot photographs around town during his walks. There’s a Facebook page for that. He also created a Facebook group for Nutley photos, old and new. He also moderates Belleville and Nutley groups.

Anthony's World - Spring Update

We’ll be short and only when there’s news to share or update.

1.    Belleville Sons Honor Roll
The project that began more than 15 years ago, to identify and remember the fallen soldiers from Belleville, N.J., is having long-term effects. In the past 13 months, Belleville has dedicated 21 street signs to fallen soldiers from the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Vietnam War and the Cold War.

In 1999, the Belleville Liberty war memorial had a partial list of soldiers, sailors and Marines lost in service. In 2005, using the names of the fallen discovered in Buccino’s research, the town added more than 150 names, where there had been none, to its Belleville Veterans Memorial on Union Avenue.

Our research continues as we learn more information about these Belleville Sons from their families as we prepare to dedicate street signs in their memory. We have been using digitized military records, where available to enhance information on our web site and in updated print editions of Belleville Sons Honor Roll – Remembering the Men Who Paid for Our Freedom.

Additionally, Belleville street signs dedicated to honor the sacrifice of three town police officers and a fire captain killed in the line of duty were unveiled in November.

2.    Nutley Sons Honor Roll
Don’t tell anyone yet, but we are continuing in our effort to work with the powers-that-be in Nutley to dedicate streets signs for the 140 fallen Nutley Sons.  These signs would be based on research for Nutley Sons Honor Roll – Remembering the Men Who Paid for Our Freedom.

3.    Book Projects
You may be aware Anthony is juggling three book projects. One project is Nutley Notables Volume 2, the follow up to Nutley Notables - The Men and Women Who Made a Memorable Impact on Our Home Town, Nutley, New Jersey. Another project involves research into murder, mayhem and major crime in a typical north Jersey town. And the third book is that Mosquito Man book simmering on a back burner.

4.    Other Stuff
Anthony continues to shoot photographs around town during his walks. There’s a Facebook page for that. He also created a Facebook group for Nutleyphotos, old and new. He also moderates Belleville and Nutley groups.

Anthony also maintains the websites and Facebook groups for Kingsland Manor and the Nutley Historical Society.

Don’t forget, books make great gifts for moms, grads, and dads. Anthony’s books are all available on Amazon.

1.    Belleville Sons Honor Roll
The project that began more than 15 years ago, to identify and remember the fallen soldiers from Belleville, N.J., is having long-term effects.

In the past 13 months, Belleville has dedicated thirteen street signs to fallen soldiers from the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Vietnam War and the Cold War.

If we look back at 1999, the Belleville Memorial had a partial list of the lost soldiers, sailors and Marines lost in service. In 2005, using the names of the fallen discovered in my research, the town added more than 150 names, where there had been none, to its Belleville Veterans Memorial on Union Avenue.

Websites bring Nutley History to life

By Hasime Kukaj

NOTE: Funny thing about when this piece ran, my web sites went down when my host shutdown without notice. By the time I relocated everything, all the buzz, if any, had gone.

Anthony's World is Back in Business

Since at least  mid-September certain of our web sites have been down or inaccessible or both. In the last few weeks a few more of our web sites went down.

Turned out The Nutley Sun did a great story on web sites preserving local history and included information about our sites Old Nutley and Nutley Sons Honor Roll. That's about the time we noticed the pages were gone. Disappeared. Invisible.

One of many entertaining books you should own.
Also disappeared were Anthony's World, Uncle Tonoose and Travels With Tonoose, and there was no way to get them back, no way to contact the web host and yada, yada, yada.

Well, finally, this past week or so, we were able to relocate and recapture most of the sites. It doesn't look like Uncle Tonoose and Travels with Tonoose will be back any time soon.

You'll still have the archives at Uncle Tonoose the blog. You can waste a lot of time enjoying years worth of posts there.

So, we're glad that Anthony's World is back, along with Old Nutley and Nutley Sons Honor Roll. Please have patience as we wade our way through thousands of pages checking links and looking for photos that didn't get posted along with the pages.

Meanwhile, if you'd like to support the web sites, please buy a book or two for yourself and a few as gifts - thanks.

Celebrating Nutley's History

From The Observer Online
By Karen Zautyk
Observer Correspondent

August 12, 2014
NUTLEY – If you were a kid, where would you opt to be on a sunny Tuesday morning in August? In a park? Down the Shore?

For a group of Nutley youngsters, the choice was to be at the Department of Public Affairs offices on Chestnut St. for a lesson local history.

No foolin’.
